Manmohan Singh Surrenders with Musharraf-ishtyle Adaab

Spread The Word

Look at this Musharraf wannabe Sellout
तुम मेरे नागरिक मारो और मैं तुम्हे आदाब के साथ आत्मसमर्पण करूंगा।
(You Terrorize & Mass murder my countrymen and I will Bow & Surrender to you)

No wonder his Muslim Rightist party's symbol is hand. वाह रे, Bharatiya Domestic-Foreign policy Tamasha. Someone is busy kissing enemy's a** internationally by doing Adaab, Musharraf-ishtyle, while someone else is busy domestically learning how to Hail (salute).

Its the same Pervez Musharraf who on the 10th Anniversary of Kargil war victory today, a fact which present Congress Government has chosen to ignore and families of those soldiers who died are being neglected, has just termed the war as a "big success" for Pakistan as it forced India to discuss Kashmir post-war in 1999. In an interview to a news channel he said, "Yes, indeed, it was a big success because it had (an) impact even on the attitudes of the Indian side. How did we start discussing the Kashmir dispute? How was it that the Indians agreed that we will discuss Kashmir and there must be a negotiated settlement? Before this there was no such thing at all,".

What a role model, Overrated World Renowned Mythical Economist and Dhimmi Regent Sellout PM Mr. Manmohan Singh has chosen.

It's for sure that someone was smoking a joint while writing that disastrous blunder of a joint statement because no sane nationalist & patriot Bharatvaasi will so as to even think of surrendering Bharat's sovereignty to an enemy which has mass murdered through terror so many Bharatiya citizens and persecuted its minorities particularly Hindus whose population has gone down from double digits to point decimal places. Sadly, articles below tell a different story. Credit for the articles goes to their respective fearless authors. In days when the Government may be arm twisting media houses or latter chooses to be a sellout and toe Government's line, such articles which bring out truth are need of the hour. Posting excerpts from them here before they get censored and removed from original source.

Manmohan Singh introduced Balochistan, terror delink in Egypt statement by Times Of India
Who drafted the controversial joint statement in Sharm-el Sheikh?

Sifting through the clutter, this is the picture that has been culled.

On July 14, foreign secretary Shiv Shankar Menon had his first official talks with his Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir.

Bashir handed over a paper that detailed the actions taken by Pakistan on the 26/11 terror attacks from January 5, the day India handed over its first dossier to Pakistan.

The talks continued through July 15, at various forums on the sidelines of the NAM summit, without much headway, except for a line here, a paragraph there. Menon even reportedly met Pakistan PM Yousuf Raza Gilani. The Indian side had travelled with a draft statement, but the problem was getting Pakistan to agree to it.

On July 16, when PM Manmohan Singh finally met Gilani, the two leaders sat down for a one-on-one chat that went on for a long time, and was apparently peppered with a lot of Urdu poems. The bilateral ran on for over an hour, according to the PM himself. "Afterwards we called the foreign secretaries. I asked the Pakistan Prime Minister to sum up what we had agreed. I added a little bit. Then we instructed the two foreign secretaries to come up with an agreed draft."

After that the two foreign secretaries and their delegations retired to hammer out a statement. The crux of the agreement was the "delinking" of action on terrorism with the composite dialogue. But India also decided that the "farce" of holding Pakistan to its pledge of January 6, 2004 should be done away with, because Pakistan had regularly flouted this pledge.

It's very clear that the two "new" elements were introduced by the PM. The first was the delinking, and the second, Balochistan.

The PM quite candidly explained why he included Balochistan in the statement. "The Prime Minister of Pakistan did bring up this thing when I said about terrorist acts aided, abetted and inspired from Pakistan's side. He said that in his country people say India is active in Balochistan. I said our conduct is an open book. We are willing to discuss all issues because we are doing nothing. And I said to him that I have been told several times that Indian consulates in Afghanistan are engaged in undesirable activities and I said these consulates have existed not today, they were set up way back in the 1950s. But if you have any evidence, we are willing to look at it because we are an open book; we are doing nothing. Therefore, we are not afraid of discussing these issues."

Extraordinarily, the almost conciliatory tone of the statement was at odds with the PM's own remarks barely an hour later. In fact, it was clear the PM was trying to interpret the statement in a particular way, because by then the Pakistanis had already interpreted the statement to mean that they were off the hook -- the umbilical cord between terror and dialogue was cut.

Shiv Shankar Menon, a seasoned negotiator, has defended the statement saying the "intention was clear". "You can call it good drafting or bad drafting, but the meaning is clear," he had told a group of questioning MPs earlier this week.
With an adaab, PM capitulates by Swapan Dasgupta
A photograph, it is said, is more telling than a thousand words of succinct prose. Last Friday morning, the readers of many newspapers may have observed a very revealing photograph from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh where Indian and Pakistani delegations, led by their respective Prime Ministers, met on the sidelines of the redundant Non-Aligned Movement Summit. The photograph showed Manmohan Singh, flanked by Yousuf Raza Gilani, greeting a woman member of the Pakistani delegation with what, presumably, is either an adaab or a feeble imitation of the signature Pervez Musharraf salute.

How the Prime Minister of India chooses to greet a foreigner is an individual decision. He may offer a limp handshake or even a firm one; he may copy Fidel Castro’s bear hug; he may, though this is extremely unlikely, greet the visitor with a peck on both cheeks; he may favour a deep Japanese-style bow; and alternatively he may offer the traditional Namaste. It is entirely a personal decision and one that need not be bound in protocol, as long as it is laced with courtesy.

Not even his worst enemies will accuse Manmohan of either rudeness or discourtesy. He would not have invited charges of either cultural insensitivity or inappropriate conduct had he chosen to greet the Pakistani lady with folded hands. Most foreigners, in fact, expect to be greeted with a Namaste by an Indian, especially when it is a formal occasion.

That Manmohan chose to greet the Pakistani officials with an adaab is revealing. It suggested a mindset centred on supplication which translated politically means a desperate desire to accommodate and please. Pursuing the line of least resistance has been the signature tune of the PM in his relationship with the owners of the Congress, his coalition partners and in his conduct of foreign policy. Some may see in this Manmohan’s grand vision of reconciliation: Breakfasting in Delhi and lunching in Lahore. But attributing profundity to inanity is a well-known Indian trait, except these days it passes off as media management.

The outrageous joint statement issued from Sharm el-Sheikh has been analysed threadbare by a country which wants to know whether the ‘tough on terrorism’ stand adopted by India after the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai was meant for electoral consumption alone. Read with the apology the PM issued to President Asif Ali Zardari for miscuing his rehearsed lines at Yekaterinburg in Russia last month, the joint statement’s clear willingness to not let the trivial issue of terrorism mar the composite dialogue reveals the spinal condition of Indian diplomacy under Manmohan.

Manmohan’s inclination to appease the rogue state in Pakistan was first in evidence at the Havana summit of NAM two years ago when it was proclaimed that India and Pakistan were co-victims of terror. The groundwork for this shameful retreat from the Islamabad declaration of January 2004 had, in fact, been done at the meeting of Foreign Ministers in Delhi immediately after the UPA Government assumed power in the summer of 2004 when it was stated that terrorism would not be allowed to derail the peace process.

However, what is intriguing about the latest reiteration of a decision to delink dialogue from acts of aggression is that it even caught the decision-making apparatus of the Government unawares. The overall consensus in the Ministry of External Affairs and the intelligence agencies was that it would be imprudent to resume formal dialogue with a duplicitous neighbour unless there was clear evidence that it was taking firm and effective steps to defang the terrorists operating from within its territory. It was felt that any engagement with Pakistan could well be conducted within the framework of discreet back channel diplomacy.

This was the gist of the briefing by the Foreign Secretary to the Indian media accompanying the Prime Minister to Egypt. At best, Manmohan was expected to show some recognition of the civilian Government’s difficulties in confronting a monster that had been nurtured by the Pakistan military establishment and the ISI. After all, Zardari had owned up to Pakistan’s role in sustaining fanatical jihadis. Not even the most clued-in expected Manmohan to walk the entire mile to placate Pakistan, going to the ridiculous extent of even tacitly conceding an Indian role in the disturbances in Baluchistan.

Conspiracy theories tend normally to be a little fanciful but there is a growing body of evidence to suggest that Manmohan’s actions may be guided by a nudge and a wink from the US. That Washington no longer has the stomach to continue the fight in Afghanistan is hardly the world’s best kept secret. But no disentanglement from Afghanistan is possible for the US unless it has some assurance that Pakistan is not going to fill the vacuum with a barbaric Taliban regime intent on wreaking havoc in the heartlands of Western ‘decadence’. Was India chipping in to raise Pakistan’s comfort level? Has India become a collaborator in the US’s AfPak policy?

At this juncture only questions can be raised. But there is merit in scrutinising a number of other steps taken by Manmohan to placate the US. First, there was the change of the Commerce Minister followed by clear indications that the ‘intransigence’ of Kamal Nath would be reviewed in future WTO negotiations. Second, in signing the G-8 declaration, Manmohan indicated a retreat from India’s existing policy on Climate Change. Finally, by adding his signature to the G-8 proclamation on non-proliferation, Manmohan may have taken the first covert step in accommodating the Obama Administration’s determination to rollback India’s gains from the agreements with the IAEA and NSG.

These are early days yet but Manmohan’s adaab suggests that accommodation of others rather than enlightened self-interest may become the new principle of Indian foreign policy. Maybe the time is fast approaching when India should prepare to do its Namaste to him, before he travels down the IK Gujral route.
The silence of Mr Singh by Ashok Malik

For PM, Indian blood is cheap by Kanchan Gupta
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is a decent and honest man. His admirers would say he is an economist too. His detractors (a plague on their houses!) don’t quite see it that way and his critics (may they never escape the damnation of hell!) think he is a feckless man given to spinning webs of deceit to cover up his sins of omission and commission. So, there is no reason to doubt that when he met Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (yes, it still exists) Summit at Sharm el-Sheikh last Thursday, Mr Singh did the tough-guys-don’t-cry act with him.
Sharm surrender not surprising by Balbir K Punj

It takes a whole new level of talent ...

A Sharm-less surrender by G Parthasarathy
Assertions by Mr Singh that India and Pakistan are both equally “victims” of terrorism, that they share a “common destiny”, or that a rising India cannot assert its rightful place in the comity of nations without good relations with Pakistan, are factually incorrect and undermine Indian diplomacy. A democratic, secular India cannot share a “common destiny” with a theocratic, feudal and military-dominated Pakistan, which is being challenged by terrorists the ISI backed to ‘bleed’ India and seek ‘strategic depth’ in Afghanistan. India, on the other hand has been a victim of the terrorism sponsored by Pakistan. Equating the two countries, as we have done in Sharm el-Sheikh, is ill-advised. India’s economic growth has accelerated and its international profile has flourished by its partnership with the international community in forums like the G-8 and G-20, despite Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and diplomatic hostility. We can ‘rise’ in the world with or without Pakistan’s cooperation. The more we suggest that we need Pakistan’s meherbani to accelerate economic growth, or rise in world affairs, the more those who cannot countenance India’s rise in the world within Pakistan’s establishment will continue to ‘bleed’ us.

There are serious differences between Mr Zardari, who has genuinely sought accommodation and cooperation with India, and Mr Gilani, who rose in politics with the support of Gen Zia-ul-Haq in the 1980s. Mr Gilani echoes the hardline approach of Pakistan’s military establishment. How then are India’s national interests served by embarrassing Mr Zardari in Yekaterinburg and appeasing Mr Gilani in Sharm el-Sheikh?
Even fundamentalist Muslim Rightist MJ Akbar is pissed (Manmohan endorses a statement out of joint) about this blunder by Overrated World Renowned Mythical Economist and Dhimmi Regent Sellout PM Mr. Manmohan Singh. May be now the latter would try and reverse the damage in order to at least appease his Muslim Ummah.

Diplomatic Surrender by Manmohan Singh

Spread The Word

Here is a very good writeup by Mr. Lal Krishna Advani on the disastrous & shameful diplomatic surrender of Bharat (misnomer: India) to Pakistan by Antonia Maino-Manmohan Singh's Muslim Rightist Congress government.

It distresses me to note that national consensus to fight terrorism has been undermined by the UPA government itself, which, as recent developments have shown, has even disregarded the national mood in this matter. As I speak here today, there is intense disquiet and concern among all thinking Indians, including a section of the Congress party itself, over the latest India-Pakistan Joint Statement issued on 16 July 2009 following talks between Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart, Mr. Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, who met in Sharm-el-Sheikh in Egypt on the sidelines of the NAM summit. It marks a major diplomatic surrender on India’s part.

History tells us how, in the Indo-Pak wars in 1965 and 1971, the then Congress governments gave away on the diplomatic front the gains India had made on the battlefront. Both Lal Bahadur Shastri and Indira Gandhi at least had India’s proud military victories to their credit. In contrast, Dr. Manmohan Singh is the first Indian Prime Minister who has squandered India’s diplomatic advantage over Pakistan even before the battle against Pak-sponsored terrorism is far from over.

I find the latest India-Pakistan Joint Statement to be totally unacceptable for three reasons.

  1. Firstly, it marks a big retreat by the Indian government from its own oft-stated position on talks with Pakistan when it states in the Joint Statement: “ Action on terrorism should not be linked to the composite dialogue process and these should not be bracketed”.

Prime Minister Singh said that India was ready to discuss all issues with Pakistan, including “all outstanding issues.”
Whatever Dr. Singh may have said subsequently by way of clarification, he has agreed, in black and white, that “India was ready to discuss all issues with Pakistan, including all outstanding issues” such as Kashmir ― indeed, this is what constitutes the so-called Composite Dialogue ― and that that such dialogue will not be linked to “action on terrorism”.

  2. India’s insistence thus far has been that Pakistan must bring the Pak-based masterminds of the 26/11 terror attack on Mumbai to book before any meaningful talks with Islamabad can begin. How does government reconcile this affirmation with the latest statement?

  3. The Sharm-el-Sheikh statement only says “Action on terrorism” and does not explicitly state “Pakistan’s action on terrorism”. This is ominous because, in the very preceding sentence, it states: “Prime Minister Gilani mentioned that Pakistan has some information on threats in Baluchistan and other areas.”
For the first time in the history of India’s diplomatic engagement with Pakistan, the Indian side has allowed Pakistan to mention Baluchistan, in a formal India-Pakistan statement, and that too in such a way that India is made to look like the sponsor of terrorism in “Baluchistan” and also “in other areas” !

In other words, the perpetrator of terrorism, which is what Pakistan really is, has succeeded, with the Indian government’s help, to project itself as a victim of India-sponsored terrorism.

In view of the Prime Minister’s diplomatic capitulation before Pakistan, I am constrained to make the following three demands:

• India must suspend all official talks with Islamabad, including secretary-level talks, until we get credible proof that the government of Pakistan has taken necessary action against the masterminds of the terror attack on Mumbai. Recent reports that the chief of Lashkar-e-Toiba was released by the high court due to poor handling of the case by the prosecution, and no appeal has been filed in the Supreme Court until now, are indeed ominous.

• India must seek the extradition of all those involved in all the cross-border terrorist activities in India, such as Dawood Ibrahim, who have been given shelter in Pakistan.

• India must insist on timebound dismantling of the entire anti-India terrorist infrastructure based on Pakistani soil. In this, we have admission from no less a person than Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, who stated two weeks ago that terrorists were “created and nurtured” in his country in order to achieve “some short-term tactical objectives”. He also said that “terrorists of today were the heroes of past until Mumbai terror attacks in India on 26 November 2008.”

Rudy accused Prasad of misleading management institutions like IIMs and Harvard Business School through his claims of turning around Indian Railways. Debunking Prasad's claims, Banerjee has said that after meeting all expenses, the Railways were left with a surplus of just Rs.8,361 crore and not Rs.90,000 crore.
      • Lalu a juggler, Nitish echoes Mamata
On the surplus funds with the railways, Mr Banerjee had on Thursday said that a corpus of just Rs 8,361 crore remained after expenditure of Rs 13,600 crore on account of Pay Commission award last year and Rs 2,600 crore this year. Accusing Mr Prasad of misleading the country on the issue of railway profits during his tenure as minister, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar said the RJD leader now stood exposed. “From Mr Prasad’s claim of the railways achieving a cash surplus of Rs 90,000 crore to Mamata Banerjee’s disclosure of cash surplus of around Rs 8,361 crore, the jugglery of figures in the budget with respect to the profits is amply evident,” Mr Kumar said. The chief minister said that he had always wondered how a man who “ruined” Bihar for 15 years was “doing exceedingly well” in the railways.
      • Lalu should apologise to the nation: Nitish
Prasad had "hoodwinked and misled" the nation and the people, Kumar, a former railway minister, said it was "the biggest-ever offence" committed by any public servant in office since Independence. "Prasad owed an explanation to the nation and people," Kumar said, adding the RJD supremo should apologise to the nation. "A person who earned laurels and sobriquets of being a management guru and was invited by several management institutions in India and abroad for lectures for hollow claims of the turnaround by the Railways stands exposed now," Kumar claimed.
    • Corruption and Substandard projects: 3 people have been killed and 11 injured when a Delhi Metro bridge collapsed near Lady Shri Ram College in Dhamrutpur near Lajpat Nagar around 0520 HRS. What has suddenly happened to Delhi Metro which used to have a stellar record of public safety and before deadline completion rate that suddenly after the revelations that its Anti-Corruption Anti-Political-Pressure Leader Mr. E Sreedharan wants to quit that since past one year or more work site accidents and unexplained delays have increased. Especially after the Hyderabad Metro Rail corruption case exposed by Mr. Sreedharan on September 28 2008 for which he was threatened with a defamation case by Muslim Rightist Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh led by Evangelical Christian Y Samuel R Reddy. There are also reports that there is unnecessary pressure on the DMRC to finish the work because of Common Wealth Games in 2010 which may leading to substandard development. As expected from a person of Mr. Sreedharan's incorruptible stature, he offered to resign from the post of MD taking full moral responsibility for the incident even though he was not directly involved. 3 people died and Sreedharan resigns. Compare this to former and the worst Home Minister of Bharat Shivraj Patil who had to be halfheartedly removed even though more than 3000 people died to 47 Islamic & Christian terror attacks under his tenure.

    • Price Rise and False Promises: Muslim Rightist Congress led UPA government reduced the fuel prices just before elections as a Pre-Poll gift and after forming the Government it has raised prices again. They had reduced petrol prices by Rs 5 a litre, diesel by Rs 2 and cooking gas by Rs 25 per cylinder. The new prices became effective from midnight on January 29 2009.
      • Petrol price hike noble thanksgiving by UPA: BJP
      • Congress raises price again
In one of the steepest hikes ever, the government on Wednesday jacked up fuel prices by Rs 4 a litre for petrol and Rs 2 for diesel, triggering ominous talk of freight-rate hike by transporters. This means, apart from a hike in your car-running bill, vegetables and food items, will become even costlier. But with international crude prices rising to a seven-month high of around $73, and the finance ministry worried about a growing fiscal deficit, the government has finally bitten the bullet. But truckers and transporters promptly announced they would pass on the burden by raising freight rates. IFTRT said truck rentals would go up 3-4% and retail freight rates 20-25%. This is the first fuel price increase effected by UPA-2. Petrol and diesel prices were last raised by Rs 5 and Rs 3 a litre, respectively, in June 2008. They were reduced by Rs 10 for petrol and Rs 4 for diesel in two equal instalments in December and January just before elections.

    • Leaderless skills, Hypocrisy and Secularism in full force: For the record, Hindu & Sikh Minorities are being persecuted and forced to pay Jizya (Islamic Tax) by Muslim extremist Taliban in Pakistan but apparently the matter is not serious enough for Overrated World Renowned Mythical Economist and Dhimmi Regent PM Mr. Manmohan Singh to loose his sleep. Kudos to Mr. Lal Krishna Advani for raising this very important issue about Hindu Human Rights and Civil Liberties. So for the record, Muslim Rightist Congress doesn't care about Hindu & Sikh Genocide in Pakistan but BJP does.
      • History repeats itself, Hindus in Pakistan agree to pay jazia to Taliban
      • Advani airs concern at jizya on Hindus, Sikhs in Pakistan
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani has expressed concern at Taliban-imposed jizya - protection money being forcibly collected from religious minority in Pakistan - and urged the Indian Government to take steps "to prevent hardships and persecution of Hindus and Sikhs" in that country. "The BJP urges the Indian government to take all necessary steps with the government of Pakistan to prevent any further hardships and persecution of the Hindus and Sikhs in that country," the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said Wednesday. Advani in a statement said: "The BJP urgently calls upon the Pakistan government to protect the lives and properties of the Hindus and Sikhs in Pakistan and to ensure that they are safeguarded and that they are not subjected to any discrimination and harassment." "The BJP is greatly concerned at reports emanating from Pakistan that the Taliban has asked to pay a jizya tax of Rs.6 million," he said. "This is a direct outcome of the highly pampered existence that the Taliban have enjoyed, till very recently in Pakistan, in terms of which they have enjoyed the patronage of important organs of the state," Advani said.

    • Abuse of Power and Unbecoming of Minister: Muslim Rightist Congress's Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) from Nagarkurnool, Andhra Pradesh Mr. Manda Jagannath slapped and assaulted Mr. Ravinder Reddy, Bank Manager, Andhra Pradesh Grameen Vikas Bank in Mahabubnagar district for not releasing loans to SC/ST beneficiaries. Despite visual evidence he denies assaulting the Manager. He says I was catching his shoulder. Someone should teach him the laws that even laying a finger on someone or spitting at someone is considered a battery and assault. At least in civilized world. Its such an irony that when he was assaulting Mr. Reddy we can see Mr. Mohandas Gandhi's picture in the background. So much for all ballyhoo about Gandhi and Peace by Muslim Rightist Congress. Would Antonia Maino aka Sonia Gandhi or Manmohan Singh take any action against the culprit? I really doubt that because as per similar precedents they may just question him for show and then let him go.

    • Abuse of Power, Unbecoming of Governor: Governor Syed Sibtey Razi due to his alleged partisanship with Muslim Rightist Congress is not dissolving Jharkhand Assembly and denying Civil Right to people of Jhakhand to vote and elect the representatives as they wish.
      • BJP demands Jharkhand Assembly dissolution
BJP on Wedenesday demanded dissolution of Jharkhand Assembly and sought fresh election in the state. "The assembly which is in suspended animation should be dissolved. People should get the chance to elect their representatives instead of experimenting another government," BJP's state unit president Raghuvar Das told a news conference here. "Governor Syed Sibtey Razi should be recalled as he has become a rallying point of Congress. During the last six months of President's Rule, law and order has worsened and the progress on development front has stalled," he said. Das alleged state UPA leaders have been "camping" in New Delhi to "plead" with the Central leadership to form a new government in the state. JMM chief Shibu Soren and JPCC president Pradeep Kumar Balmachu are among several UPA leaders who are in the national capital to meet the Central leadership of the alliance, he said.

This is the same person who is not passing an order to hang December 2001 Parliament Attack convicted terrorist Mohamed Afzal Guru may be because of communal nonsecular Muslim-Rightist vote bank politics of the government. Abuse of Power, Unbecoming of Minister: Christian Rightist DMK's A Raja's reign of Corruption
    • Max greed: Raja’s friend shows how to mint profit
Even as the dust is yet to settle on the 2G and 3G scandals allegedly involving A Raja, the Union Telecom Minister is embroiled in another controversy. This time, it is to do with the allotment of franchisees for BSNL’s recently-launched WiMax services to a company owned by one of the Minister’s close associates from Perambulur. The company, Wellcom Communications India Pvt Ltd, has applied for licences to seven most revenue-generating of the 16 circles in India. According to sources, the revenue-sharing pattern agreed upon is 75 per cent to the private party and 25 per cent to BSNL. Sources said that if the company gets the nod for the 20 Mega Hz spectrum, it may sell off stakes to foreign players at huge profits, like in the 2G case. Wellcom Communications is represented by T Silvarajoo (55) with 15 per cent shares. The other two directors are Dato Vijayakumar Ratnavelu (47) and T Gunasegaran Thiagarajan, both Tamilians with a Malaysian citizenship. Dato Vijayakumar is also running a company with the same name in Malaysia. Silvarajoo hails from Raja’s constituency Perambulur and is a close associate of the Minister. He is also associated with Dr C Krishnamoorthy, in whose building Raja had begun his legal practice in the constituency. Silvarajoo is currently a sub-contractor of CPWD’s road works. He supplies pellets from a quarry owned by Krishnamoorthy for the ongoing Chennai-Tiruchirappally National Highway (NH-45) project. Though the BSNL had invited franchisees a year ago, it postponed the bid several times allegedly due to pressure from the Minister who, sources said, kept adding names to the original list. Apparently under Raja’s pressure, BSNL chairman and managing director Kuldeep Goyal initiated the franchise-awarding procedures in mid-January.

Corruption, Halfhearted Under-researched policies and Substandard projects: Anti-Corruption and Anti-Political-Pressure Delhi Metro's fearless Leader Mr. E Sreedharan known for his spotless career exposed discrepancies in Muslim Rightist Congress led Andhra Pradesh government's Hyderabad Metro Rail Project. He termed the project as a scandal.
    • Sreedharan's Hyderabad Metro comments stir controversy
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) managing director E. Sreedharan calling the Hyderabad Metro Rail project a "scandal" in the making has caused embarrassment to the Andhra Pradesh government and has triggered upheaval in political circles. Stung by Sreedharan's charges in a letter to Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, the Congress government has sought an unconditional apology, failing which it threatened to sue him. Sreedharan's letter, in which he expressed reservations over the way government awarded contract to Maytas-led consortium, is likely to provide ammunition to the opposition's attack on the government as they gear up for next year's elections. The main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which announced a two-month long state-wide campaign from Oct 2 against corruption in the government, alleged that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy himself was involved in this "scam". Sreedharan's objection to the way the government allowing private consortium to commercially exploit prime land has also brought into focus the sensitive issue of land. Sreedharan, who served as a consultant for Hyderabad Metro project, remarked that making "available 296 acres of prime land to BOT (build, operate and transfer) developer for commercial exploitation was like selling the family silver". He also felt that the land concession could lead to a "big political scandal some time later". "It is apparent the BOT operator has a hidden agenda which appears to be to extend the metro network to a large tract of his private land holdings so as to reap a windfall profit of four to five times the land price." Sreedharan's letter surfaced four days after the state government signed a concession agreement with Maytas-led consortium, which was awarded the contract to build the ultra modern rail system at an estimated cost of Rs.121.32 billion on a BOT basis in public private partnership (PPP) mode. The BOT developer agreed to pay Rs.303.11 billion to the state government over the concession period of 35 years, which could be further extended by another 25 years. "Sreedharan had, however, pointed out that Hyderabad's success in BOT model should not be cited as an argument for changing the policy of the government for funding metro projects in the country," it said. The consortium with Navabharat Ventures, Ital Thai and IL&FS as other partners refused to seek any grant from the government of India though the latter sanctioned Rs.23.63 billion or 20 percent of the project cost under Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme. Expressing his concerns over the private sector's direct involvement in building the metro rail, the DMRC's MD cautioned that BOT mode could backfire. "World-wide the experience has been that no metro project has succeeded so far on BOT basis. ...Our sole example of Mumbai Metro-I has not given us the required confidence in the BOT route," said the DMRC chief. "The example of Hyderabad Metro is quite misleading as the negative viability gap funding has resulted solely on account of 296 acres of prime land being made available to the BOT operator for commercial exploitation." Expressing doubts about BOT projects for being "expensive in long run", he said the "main beneficiary" in such projects would be the private party.
