Hindus and Jews Unite on Capitol Hill in Rare Meeting of Spiritual Leaders

Several of Hinduism's most senior spiritual and religious leaders traveled from India to come together with Jewish leaders at Capitol Hill here yesterday in a rare summit jointly organized by the American Jewish Committee (AJC), Hindu American Foundation (HAF) and World Council of Religious Leaders (WCORL). Two days of intense dialogue hosted at AJC offices and visits to synagogues and temples spanning New York City and Washington, D.C. culminated yesterday with a briefing held in the Rayburn Building on the Hill. Attendees were addressed by Hindu and Jewish leaders, officials from the Obama Administration and Ambassador Bahij Mansour, Director of the Israeli Foreign Ministry Religious Affairs Department.
Swami Avdeshananda Giri, Trustee of the Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha, an apex unifying body of many of the most prominent Hindu religious sampradayas (traditions), led the Hindu Sabha delegation.

"Hindus believe that the whole world is one family so we are committed to non-violence, brotherhood and peace," said Swami Avdeshananda. "In order to bring forth communal harmony and peace throughout the world, we need to engage in interfaith dialogue to foster mutual understanding and respect. In that spirit, we began two summits ago and continued today with the Jews as a first step."

The AJC's Rabbi David Rosen, International Director of Interreligious Affairs, represented the Jewish perspective and spoke of the shared histories and mutual beliefs of the two faith communities.

"America is on the cutting edge of the new Hindu Jewish relationship," stated Rabbi Rosen. "I hope these two summits will serve to galvanize this relationship in the U.S. for the benefit of not only these two communities, but society at large."

These events, the first in the United States, followed a historic Hindu-Jewish Summit held in New Delhi in 2007 and Jerusalem in 2008--first initiated by Bawa Jain, Secretary General of the WCORL.

"In the coming together of the world's two oldest religions, I see great prospects for furthering strategic relations between India-Israel and India-Israel and the U.S." said Mr. Jain. "The World Council of Religions is committed to expand this dialogue by engaging the other major world traditions similarly in religious diplomacy."

The earlier summits abroad resulted in the first breakthrough "Declaration" that among other points, affirmed mutual belief in One Supreme Being, the sanctity of human life and the rejection of violence to achieve goals, the need to have religious scholars from each tradition review school textbooks and finding ways to weigh in together on some contemporary scientific and ethical dilemmas. The Declaration was hailed as an example of concrete results of mutual Hindu-Jewish explorations.

The HAF co-sponsored this latest effort as the delegations looked for ways of interacting with lawmakers as an example of strong unity between otherwise diverse religious traditions. The HAF and AJC, both with long-standing Capitol Hill ties, leveraged contacts at the House, Senate and Administration to facilitate introductions of their respective communities' faith leaders.

"Too often, as human rights advocates, we have had to join our Jewish colleagues in bearing witness to brutal religious hatred, repression and terrorism against Hindus and Jews to Capitol Hill," said Suhag Shukla, HAF's Managing Director. "It was a rare opportunity to this time bring our most revered spiritual leaders to this place to share their blessings, celebrate what binds us as people of faith and absorb the serenity and wisdom that their presence affords."

Hindu American Foundation Joins in Historic Hindu-Jewish Summit Held in Israel [emphasis and colors added]

The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) was represented in a delegation of Hindu spiritual and lay leaders that visited Israel last week to attend the Second International Hindu-Jewish Summit organized by the World Council of Religious Leaders (WCORL) in conjunction with the American Jewish Committee (AJC) and the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The goal of the Summit, according to Bawa Jain, Secretary General of WCORL, was to further develop and promote understanding and mutual respect between the leaders of The Chief Rabbinate of Israel and The Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha, an apex unifying body of many of the most prominent Hindu religious leaders. This 2008 Summit was a continuation of the first Summit held in Dehli, India in February 2007.

"This historic coming together of the two oldest religions will further efforts towards religious diplomacy and alleviate many of the deep-rooted misunderstandings of the past 2000 years," said Bawa Jain, after the Summit. Jain invited Sheetal Shah, Director of Development for HAF, to travel to Israel as a Hindu representative to the Summit.

The Hindu delegation, which arrived in Jerusalem on February 17 2008, consisted of several prominent Hindu leaders including Swami Avdheshanand Giri, Swami Paramatmananda Saraswati, Swami Chidanand Saraswati, and Swami Madhavpriyadas. Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the convener of the Dharma Acharya Sabha, was unable to attend the Summit due to health concerns.

"The Summit was an extraordinary opportunity for leaders of both religions to come together and uncover a number of similarities between Hinduism and Judaism,” said Sheetal Shah, upon her return to the HAF office in New York. "This Summit personified the spirit of true pluralism as we discovered and celebrated the theological, ritual and spiritual similarities that our religious traditions share. HAF was honored and humbled to join our dharmacharyas on this mission."

In addition to the planned discussions between the leaders of the Rabbinate and the Hindu delegation, which led to the formation of a new Declaration of understanding, the groups also met with Israeli President Shimon Peres, Minister Isaac Herzog at the Knesset, and Deputy Minster of Foreign Affairs Majalli Whbee. During the delegation’s audience with President Peres, they discussed similarities between Jewish and Hindu beliefs, mutual hopes for lasting peace in the Middle East and the importance of a strong Israeli-Indian relationship.

"This Summit was remarkable first and foremost because of the level of the participation and not just the high level Hindu leaders," said Rabbi David Rosen, who heads the AJC's Department of Interreligious Affairs. "While the first Summit last year was obviously the breakthrough, the level and extent of Israeli Rabbinic leadership that participated in the meeting in Jerusalem was unparalleled."

At the Summit, Rabbi Rosen formally read the Declaration upon which the leaders of the Rabbinate and the Hindu delegation had agreed. The nine-point Declaration broadly (a) reaffirms the common Hindu and Jewish belief in One Supreme Being both in its formless and manifest aspects; (b) expresses their common world view of the sanctity of human life; (c) recognizes that all religions are sacred for their people and therefore, no one should denigrate or interfere in the religious practice of others; (d) recognizes that the Svastika is an ancient Hindu symbol and was misappropriated by the Third Reich; and (e) calls for serious reconsideration of the Aryan Migration Theory--a largely discredited, racist theory that posits that an invasion by nomadic, non-Indian tribes conceived the Vedic civilization.

“In particular, the agreement of the belief in One Supreme Being having various manifestations and the recognition of Svastika’s auspiciousness in the Hindu tradition were monumental steps in building an understanding between the two religions,” said Shah, adding that HAF will work hard to highlight the Declaration in various fora over the next year.

Despite snowy conditions in Jerusalem, the Hindu delegation visited and said their prayers at the Kotel, also known as the Western Wall, one of the holiest sites for Jews. The delegation also paid their respects to those who perished in the Holocaust during a visit to Yad Vashem, Israel’s memorial to the Holocaust victims.

As the delegation traveled to Haifa on the last day, they met with leaders of the Druze community and paid their respects at the Ba’hai Center. In Haifa, the Mayor, Mr. Yonah Yahav, the city’s Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Shear Yashuv Cohen, along with the city’s Christian and Muslim religious leaders greeted the delegation.

"Above all, this meeting provided the opportunity not only for friendships to develop between the religious leaders, but to shatter distorted stereotypes and misconceptions that all too often have contributed to keeping the Hindu and Jewish worlds apart," added Rabbi Rosen. "Most of us who were privileged to be part of this momentous gathering had the feeling that we were part of the beginning of a new historic era of understanding and cooperation between our two faith communities."

Hindus & Jews are like two sides of same coin. We are too similar but still different. But we both mutually respect each other for it, something not found any where else. Congress makes its official Anti-Jew policy loud and clear

We saw a few days ago that this Anti-Hindu Anti-Sikh communal nefarious Muslim Rightist Congress led UPA Government added another star to its long list of religious discrimination and intolerance following its inherited Muslim appeasement policies by doing to Jews what it has been doing to Hindus for more than seven decades. Now Antonia Maino aka Sonia Gandhi headed Congress has made its Anti-Jew policy out and clear.

Pranab rules out Gaza-like strikes

External affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday reiterated that all options were open for India though he ruled out Gaza-like strikes, saying the situation here could not be compared with the ongoing conflict in Gaza. "I have not gone and occupied any (of) Pakistan's land which Israel has done. So, how can situation be comparable," Mukherjee said when asked whether a response similar to that of Israel can be contemplated by India.

Other than the usual post-Terrorist attack parroted statements, blame games, cheap politicking, and piggybacking on the US to do all the dirty work, the Congress led UPA has now made it public and official their stand on Israel. It is clear from Pranad Mukerjee's statement that they are in agreement with the radical Islamist Anti-Jew theory that Israel and Jews have occupied someone else land.

Mr. Mukherjee, not only Israel justified to do whatever it can to protect its citizens and sovereignty but it has set an example in front of your lackadaisical inconsiderate Government. Bharat instead has allot more reason than Israel to take action against Pakistan, Bangladesh, LTTE, China, Naxals, etc. who have grabbed its land, wagged war against the country and mass murdered at least 65000 innocent citizens in terrorist attacks. Instead of shedding your pusillanimous attitude, you are confusing the people and hurting the national interest of the country by making such ridiculous official comments and stands. First it was Anti-Hindu bigot Antulay and now Mukherjee. There has already been two more terrorist attacks in Bharat, that too at the same place in Gauhati, Assam, after 11/26 attack in Mumbai bringing the total to 40 attacks in just four and a half years under this pathetic Government which is still just busy running its usual lip service.

"We have not reached the end of the road... What they (Pakistan) have asked for, we have given them. We expect them to act on it. If they do not act on it, then what follow-up steps we will take and in what space of time it will take place, future course will decide," he said. He said that India had to deal with the civilian government in Islamabad even if it wasn't clear which agency was actually calling the shots in Pakistan.

So this is the foreign policy of the Government of a country, which has lost at least 65000 civilians to terrorism, to deal with hostile neighbor. Oh we don't know who is calling the shots in the other country but we will talk to the so-called civilian Government assuming they will get sudden dose of conscience and leave the path of Anti-Bharat Anti-Hindu terrorism.

First of all, I think Bharat is the first country in the world whose Foreign Minister publicly tells to the media that it has practically no foreign policy or idea as to how to deal with a country like Pakistan. I bet he doesn't even know that there are some countries called Kiribati, Kalmykia, São Tomé and Príncipe, or Vanuatu in this world just like how Antonia Maino aka Sonia Gandhi or her college drop out son Raul Vinci aka Rahul Gandhi don't know "OM Jai Jagdish Hare" Aarti or Gayatri Mantr, let alone how many Adhyay/Chapters are there in the holy Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta. If the Foreign Minister of Bharat doesn't even know who is in power in its bordered neighboring country then what would he know about any other country. I wonder what is he paid for to do by the citizens. Why is he still employed?

Oops.. I forgot in Bharat, Ministers, Prime Ministers, Presidents, Judges, Police Officers, Election Commissioners, Governors are all "appointed" or "selected" by Madam & other political families and not "elected" by the citizens. The only ones who are not appointed are the Chosen ones.. the fake heirs of Gandhi name.

Anti-Hindu communal Government does it to Jews now

US responded to 9/11 by destroying the whole Taliban base in Afghanistan but spineless Bharatiya (misnomer: Indian) Government still wants peace talks with Pakistan. The Utterly Pathetic Alliance (UPA) led by Congress says that there are no plans of military action against Pakistan.

India on Tuesday said it is not planning any military action against Pakistan but stressed that the neighbouring country will have to take action against terrorists there for the relations to improve.

"We are not planning any military action... but at the same time unless Pakistan takes actions against those terrorists who are operating from their soil against India and also against all those who are behind the Mumbai terrorist attack, things will not be normal," defence minister A K Antony said.

What a bunch of pussies, even after 38 terrorist attacks in mere 4 years, all they have is the same old parroted record of sham peace talks and empty threats to Pakistan. But no action against this radical Islamic Terrorism to save citizens.

The Anti-Hindu Anti-Sikh communal Congress led UPA Government has added another star to its long list of religious discrimination and intolerance by following its inherited Muslim appeasement policies. Hindus have been discriminated against ever since the days of Jawahar Lal Nehru, popularly known as Blunder of a Century. This has been taken much further by the current communal dispensation by calling Hindu Gods with derogatory names, by denying the existence of Hindu Gods by calling them mythical, by dividing the society on the basis of caste vis-a-vis getting education and job, by arresting Revered His Holiness Shri Shankracharya ji, by ignoring the murders of Hindu seers, by conspiring to break historical heritage monuments of religious and engineering significance like Shri Ram Sethu by hook or crook, by demolishing Hindu Temples all over country, and the list goes on and on.

It has been Anti-Sikh by conspiring and sponsoring the genocide of Sikhs in 1984 to take the revenge of murder of Indira Feroz Gandhi.

Over the next four days Sikhs were killed in retaliatory attacks led by Congress activists and sympathizers. As many as 3000 Sikhs were allegedly killed by Congress activists during the riots. The then Congress government was widely criticized for doing very little at the time, possibly acting as a conspirator, especially since voting lists were used to identify Sikh families.[1] Then Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, son of Indira Gandhi, made an insensitive statement at Boat Club in New Delhi on November 19th 1984, on the birthday of Indira Gandhi, “Some riots took place in the country following the murder of Indiraji. We know the people were very angry and for a few days it seemed that India had been shaken. But, when a mighty tree falls, it is only natural that the earth around it does shake a little.”.[2][3][4]

Now it is the turn of Jewish people to suffer the burnt of despot Antonia Maino's Government's communal policies.

On December 9, Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed read out a statement in the United Nations Security Council, pleading India’s case for action against Pakistan-based terrorist groups. Here is an excerpt from the official text of the statement: “A group of ten terrorists from the global terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Tayyeba reached Mumbai in the evening of 26th November 2008. The group divided themselves into four smaller groups and proceeded to pre-selected targets which included a café, popular with Indian and foreign tourists, and two major hotels.” There was no mention of, or allusion to, the fourth group’s pre-selected target, Chabad House, and the fact that the Jewish centre was attacked by the jihadis for obvious reasons. It’s almost as if nothing happened at Chabad House, that no Jews were tortured and killed by the terrorists for the simple reason that they were Jews. What makes the omission stand out like a sore thumb is the global outpouring of Jewish support for India, the outrage in the West over the targeted killings which we have used to our advantage, and the Israeli Government’s unequivocal endorsement of the tough commando action.

Whose decision was it to excise this detail from the statement? Did Mr Ahamed of the Muslim League decide not to mention it? Did he find the words ‘Israel’ and ‘Jews’ too distasteful to utter? Or was he trying to gloss over the Islamists’ visceral hatred of Jews? It is unlikely that Mr Ahamed would have decided on his own to leave out the specific detail of the Jewish centre being attacked while alluding to Leopold Café, Taj Mahal Palace and Oberoi-Trident Hotel. Given the sensitivity of the issue, the statement would have been cleared by the Minister for External Affairs and approved by the Prime Minister. So, who decided to drop the reference to Chabad House? And for what purpose? Was it done with an eye to Muslim ‘sentiments’ — like those of the Jamia professor and his tribe for whom Jew-baiting is a noble virtue — at home? Or was it meant to serve as a message to Islamists at large that this Government has no complaints against them so long as they don’t indulge in what Mr Tom Vadakkam of the Congress described on television as a “light and sound show”?

The Indian government, however, has remained completely immune to all this. In a display of crass insensitivity as well as an enduring sign that the government continues to pander to the politics of the Muslim-Jew divide, minister of state for external affairs E Ahamed did not mention the Nariman House attack in his statement to the UN Security Council last week. And this from an India which officially maintains that terror has no religion and all victims are equal.

In his speech to the UNSC asking for the world to ban the Jamaat-ud-Dawa, Ahamed referred to "pre-selected targets which included a cafe popular with Indian and foreign tourists and two major hotels". There was no mention of the Jewish Chabad Lubavitch centre, which was specifically chosen by the terrorists to attack Jews.

But was Ahamed's omission of the Jewish house in his speech a function of the fact that the government didn't want to "anger" Muslims by sympathising with the Jews. India's relationship with Israel resembles an irresistible, clandestine affair -- where the linkages are growing in many spheres but all below the radar. So, while the government is perfectly happy to have a huge defence relationship with Israel and an intelligence synergy that is seemingly bottomless, a strong fear of angering the Muslim keeps it from acknowledging this relationship openly.

Little Moshe did not even comprehend the nature of his parents' deaths. But for those who hoped for a word of sympathy for an orphaned child, the Indian government has decided not to oblige.

What do you expect from this derelict Government whose so-called leaders go to shindig when the nation is at war with terrorists.
