Vishwa Mangal Gow-Gram Yatra

(World Welfare Cow-Village Cross-Country Marathon)

A Historic Movement for

National and Global Holistic Happiness, Health, Prosperity and Blessedness

(1) The world must appreciate that the pro-Cow movement is not anti-anybody but a rational and respectable movement from every standpoint.

(2-i) Theme: Cow is the mother of the world ("Gaavo Vishwasya Maatarah"), not of any one people or country. Grateful man should say: "Vande Gow Maataram"- Salutations to Mother Cow! After Mother Earth, Mother Cow is the greatest giver on planet earth. In Sanskrit, both Mother Earth and Mother Cow are called "Go" (cow - macro and micro respectively) for good reason. The generous cow gives milk and cream, yogurt and cheese, butter and ice cream, ghee, buttermilk, lassi, Panchgavya, fuel, medicines and so much more. According to Guru Nanak Dev, cow is the right representative of the whole dumb creation and nears the most man's sensibility and power of discretion. This environmentally friendly reason has also in recent times been propagated for cow respect that the cow represents the entire animal kingdom and is man's link to the dumb animals of Creation. In respecting the cow, we are showing respect for all living things, a view that ties in deftly with Ahimsa and vegetarianism. Gandhiji much loved this point of view. The cow represents life and the sustenance of life to the Hindu. Cow is worthy of respect because it is Altruist (Parahitavaadi/Paraarthavaadi) - it so giving, taking nothing but grass. It gives and gives and gives! The cow is so vital to life, the virtual sustainer of life for humans. In a society if you only had cows and no other domestic animals or agricultural pursuits, you could still survive and the children could survive with the butter, the cream and the milk to feed the children. The Rishi tradition recognized the Panchgavya (an Ayurvedic blend of five products obtained from the cow, i.e. milk, curd, ghee, urine and cow-dung juice) as a panacea and made its intake essential prior to performance of daily Yajna. The Rishi-Krishi culture calls cow & progeny "Aghnya" (i.e., not to be killed) for all good reasons. The cow is a complete ecology, a gentle mammal, icon and hallmark of abundance. She is virtual wish-giving Kaamdhenu and "Akshay Paatra" (Inexhaustible Container/Pot) to man. Bullock is efficient & compatible driving force for potential Green Revolution (proliferation of organic farming, bio-diversity, bio-fertilizers & bio-pesticides; no place for chemical fertilizers et al here) on 400 million acres of land in Bharat as indispensable Friend of Small Farmer. Cow is originator of Ksheersaagar (Ocean of Milk/a flood of milk) and initiator of White Revolution (Operation Flood/national milk grid based on proliferation of Gokuls; no place for oxytocin injection here). Her Dohan (Dohan means milking only two mamillae of cow; the other two are for the calf) is allowed, but no Shoshan (exploitation) is allowed. As is the case with Mother Earth, if we lovingly approach her, she can lovingly provide for our needs, but if we indulge in 'greed', there will be curses on humanity and retaliations and boomerangs in forms of ecological & environmental disasters and intercontinental diseases causing mass deaths. It is a great sin to look upon cow and her progeny as mobile hamburger. The altruistic job of this picture of piety must not go thankless. Man should understand and appreciate the divine nature of cow and its exalted status as the micro form of Mother Earth. It is believed that the cow with hump and Galkambal embodies 330 million Devtas (Deities = dimensional manifestations of cosmic divine energy to address various purposes) and is a great gift of God to act as a motherly benefactor to mankind. It is not considered an 'animal' but a 'sacred mammal' and member of family in our Dharma and Culture and for very good reason. Gow-Mata's (Mother Cow's) altruistic qualities, very much like those of "Dharitri Mata" (Mother Earth), are those that man can emulate. Succinctly (Sankshipt) speaking, Cow is the Axis (Aksha) of holistic (Saakalyavaadi; Poornataavaadi) & syncretic (Samannwayvaadi) Rishi & Krishi Culture (Kulaachaar).

(2-ii) During the golden period of Bharatiya history, says the 'Golok Khand', one was designated Upnand who owned 500,000 cows, Nand was one who maintained 900,000 cows, Vrishbhaanu was one who maintained 1,000,000 (One Million) cows, Vrishbhaanuvar was one who maintained 5,000,000 (Five Million) cows, Nand Raja was one who maintained 10,000,000 (One crore/Ten Million) cows. During the times of Bhagwan Mahavir over 2,500 years ago, Jain Shraavaks (mendicants/monks) maintained 53 Gokuls in the periphery of Shravasti city. A Gokul was defined as a place that housed 10,000 cows. Anand - a millionaire - received initiation and vows of Shraavakhood from Lord Mahavir, and one of the oaths was to maintain 8 Gokuls.

(2-iii) Village is the soul of Bharat, farmer is its light and cow is his life. But today farmers' overdependence on chemical fertilizers and machines has led to the neglect of indigenous cows and bulls. The food they produce has become toxic, the soil has turned infertile, the ever-increasing loans drive them to commit suicide (Over 185,000 farmers committed suicide all over India in last 15 years) and young farmers are migrating to towns. The answer to all these problems is to return to the cow-centred way of life. This Yatra is
a wake-up call given by spiritual leaders of the nation to save the cow, save the village, save the nature, save Bharat and the world through a positive action.

(2-iv) Even, people in general in Bharat and abroad appreciate the great value of Go-Ras (cow-milk) and consider its total deprivation as suicidal. The famous Yaksha-Yudhisthir Question-Answer episode in the Mahabharata declares unadulterated cow-milk as virtual Amrit (nectar/panacea) on Earth. The Mahabharata also records Bhagwan Krishna and the Pandav brothers including Dharmaraj Yudhisthir as loving cow-milk and butter and Duryodhan as loving buffalo milk. Before the first world-war (1914 CE) army recruitment in Bharat required minimum 45" chest measure. But as more and more cows were slaughtered, reducing thereby milk and ghee availability to the people, the construction and physique of the Bharatiyas deteriorated and as a result today the army has to accept recruits with minimum 29" chest.

(2-v) It is about time the billion strong nationalist Pootraroop Samaj of Bharat asserted the three-point national agenda of Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, i.e., (1) Protection of Dharma (the righteous, holistic and syncretic sustaining principles of the people and the country), (2) Protection and promotion of Govansh (Cow & its progeny) and (3) Protection of the Poor and Modest. This was verily the national agenda of Sri Rama, Sri Krishna, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Gandhi, Sant Vinoba Bhave and other national heroes as well.

(3) Resolve : Saving the cow is my sacred duty ("Mama Dikshaa, Gow Rakshaa")

(4) Slogan : Cow saves those who save her ("Gaavo Rakshati Rakshitah")

(5) Goal : Gopaalan (cow tending) will lead to Graamoday (holistic development and affluence of Villages), Gramoday will lead to Raashtroday (holistic development and opulence of the Nation) and welfare of the world.

(6) Medium : Gow-Mata (Mother Cow)

(7) Message:

* Save the Village; make it a basic unit of Ram Rajya (maintain the holistic rural charm combined with urban amenities and Gram Swaraj). Reassert the soul of Bharat.

* Back to Mother Nature. Ensure holistic worldview and paradigm.

* Save Govansh (Mother Cow & her progeny). Cow is the real asset of India and the movement for its survival would be the second freedom struggle. We don't have Poorna Swaraj as yet including cultural Swaraj et al.

(8) HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YATRA:

(8-i) Grand Inauguration & Flag Off of the 108-day long Yatra with Vijaya Dashami blessings on Ashvin Shukla Ekadashi, Vikrami Samvat 2066 (Yugabda 5111) (Wednesday, September 30, 2009, 3.30 p m) Theme Park, Kurukshetra, Haryana, Bharat. People will take oath to protect cow.

(8-ii) Grand Finale with Makar Sankranti blessings at Nagpur on January 17, 2010. The closing function is not to wind up the cow protection movement, but it will carry forward the movement with more vigour. Cow should get rights to live naturally and die without any anxious moments.

(9) Motto : Gow Samrakshan (Cow Protection). The Yatra would spread the message of cow protection and promotion of Indian breeds of cow and unite people in the movement.

(9-ii) Out of the 70 distinctive Indian breeds/species of cow (the hump, Gal-Kambal, long ears and bushy tail distinguish the Indian cow), 37 have been mindlessly slaughtered into extinction by the beef exporters and eaters that consider it a mobile hamburger, and some of the surviving 33 breeds are on the verge of extinction.

(9-iii) The foreign rulers of pre-independence India had opened some 300 abattoirs in the country. The 'secular worthies' of independent (?) 'India that is Bharat' today are running over 36,000 'approved' slaughterhouses (official number), of which 10 are highly automated including the Alkabir (Hyderabad, Andhra), Frigorifico Allana (Aurangabad), Hind Industries (Aligarh), Allana Sons (Delhi, Andhra, Maharashtra), Deonar (Mumbai), Kolkata Abattoir, etc., where everyday 250,000 animals and 20,000 cows & her progeny are hacked for export and domestic consumption. They employ inhuman processes and tortuous ways of getting meat and skin. The unapproved slaughterhouses are over 30,000 in the country that also slaughter cows in thousands. This evil design and its daily religious execution have reduced the cow population by over 80% in the so-called "Swatantra Bharat". More cow slaughter takes place in two states, namely, the communist dominated states of West Bengal and Kerala. Cows are routinely shipped to these states for slaughter, even though it is forbidden to transport cows for slaughter across provincial borders.

(9-iv) The root causes of all this are (1) The Government policy to promote slaughter of Govansh (the advisers and babus trained in Macaulayite and Communist ethos misguide the Government and its Ministers; 'Vote Bank' politics is also responsible), (2) Thinking of animal killing and agriculture experts [Their logic: Killing the retired or non-milch ones (it is immaterial to these so-called 'experts' if this utilitarian bovine is sentient and has the power of discretion to a respectable degree, and, nonetheless, gives commercially valuable bio-fertilizers, bio-pesticides, bio-gas, medicines, et al, in forms of dung and urine till the end of its life) would provide beef for the beef-eaters and at the same time spare fodder for the milch ones; the extension of this logic would one day convince man to kill his/her 'retired' parents and other 'unproductive' members of family and himself/herself would in turn have to deservingly await butchering by his/her children motivated by 'profit', who might at least deliver some commercial dialogue like: "My dear parents, I owe you much and I love you, but I am sorry, this knife does not recognize you!"), (3) Thinking of Forest Officers (Their logic: Govansh damages the forest by grazing it. It should therefore be kept confined to cowsheds.), (4) Thinking of Finance Authorities (Their logic: Beef export brings in foreign exchange. Non-milch cows are a liability on the country's resources. Its killing is financially profitable. Consequently, therefore, slaughter of Govansh is in national interest. The Hindu thought to stop slaughter of Govansh is anti-national. They succeed in convincing the government leaders and officers through all sorts of misplaced and misdirected facts, figures and statistics), (5) Result of bureaucratic wrong thinking (When the brethren that agreed with our school of thought, come to occupy the seats of power, fail to stop slaughter of Govansh due to their being under pressure from bureaucrats), (6) The true tender and protector of Govansh - the Kisaan (farmer) himself is now off track (Today we see the dangerous consequences of the thinking of all the above-mentioned bureaucrats, pseudo-experts and leaders-turned-dealers. The soil-fertility standards of the country are declining by the day. The soil that once produced golden crops, now gives cheerless and dismal performance. The bureaucrats projected a dreamy picture of agriculture before the farmers. As a result he took his traditional farming practices to be totally wrong and began to farm according to foreign agricultural science. The government projected this ideal before them. As a result, the Govansh became irrelevant for westernised modern practices of agriculture. The thinking of the farmer also changed. He also began thinking in milch and non-milch terms. Consequently, today no Govansh is visible at farmers' homes. The true Govansh tender no longer remained so), (7) Cow tending at every home stopped (Due to the misdirected and misplaced thinking of the national policy makers, the practice of tending cow virtually in every home of the country has vanished), (8) Protest by society (Macaulayite 'education' has made cow irrelevant and useless in modern man's worldview. In ancient Bharat, the State encouraged and cooperated in cow-tending in view of the importance of Govansh in agricultural work, its tending in every home for health & nutrition purposes, its importance for religious and purposes of hygiene, and its importance for preservation of environment and ecology. Every citizen of the country understood and appreciated the importance of Govansh. Now, unfortunately, the cow is out of sight from the farm lands and homes, and, therefore, out of mind of individuals and society. The misdirected government thinking and the compartmentalised western worldview and paradigm only are responsible for the slaughter of Govansh.)

(9-v) The agonies of cows start long before they are dead. They are brought to the abattoirs in trucks, from far away places. For economy, over 30 cows are stacked up in each truck. Nobody cares to give them food or even water while in transit. They are packed so tightly in the truck, that they are hurt by each other. By the time they arrive, they are no more capable of standing on their own feet. Their tails are cut and chilli powder is rubbed into their eyes to make them move. They are brought into the final ground, where at least a thousand mute creatures are stored. This is their last open air. They are kept here for four days, hungry and thirsty. Then their legs are broken and eyes poked, so that a 'certificate' can be obtained about their uselessness. The hunger and thirst of four days cause the hemoglobin to move from blood in to fat. The meat with higher haemoglobin fetches better prices. Now these mute creatures that cannot raise a protest are pushed into washing showers. Extremely hot water (200 degrees!) is sprayed on them for five minutes, to soften their skins, so they will be easy to remove. The unfortunate creature faints at this point, but it is not dead yet. Now it is hung upside down with one leg, on a chain-pulley conveyor. Then half of the neck is slit. This drains the blood, but does not kill the animal. After death, the skin swells thick, which sells for a poor price. But the skin of a live animal is still thin, which has better economic value. On one side the blood is dripping from the neck, and on the other side a hole is made in stomach, from which air is pumped inside. This causes the body to swell, making it easier to peel the skin. After removing the leather, the animal is cut into four pieces: head, legs, body, and tail. The machines remove bones, and pack small pieces of meat into cans for shipping. Most of the importers are Gulf Countries.

(9-vi) The Yatra calls upon cow lovers to join the world's biggest movement. The Yatra also asks the cow lovers to remain prepared for any sacrifice to put a halt to the devilish practice of cow slaughter. Gow Yatra would not stop until the slaughter of cows and crossbreeding come to a halt.

(10) The countrywide Marathon with Gow-Mata as the presiding deity will cover 20,000 kms. 15,000 tributary Yatras originating from villages, blocks, sub-divisions, district centres covering 10 lakh (1 million) kms will welcome the principal marathon when it negotiates through their area. There will be Five Conferences per day - Four at day-transit cities/towns and a mega one in the evening at a place that will host the Yatra overnight. The programme highlights will be Prayers, messages, processions, cultural activities – all in a festive mood. Distinguished Saints, Acharyas, Kathakars, Scientists, Agriculture Experts, Environmentalists, Panchgavya Vaidyas, Veterinary Scientists, Water-Harvesting Experts and Rural Development Activists will address 400 mega congregations enroute for public awakening to be grateful to altruist cow as she & her progeny have long been doing a thankless job and now must be given all respect and protection. Public response will be solicited to address the sorry state of affairs of Govansh. Virtually all the 600,000 villages of Bharat and over one billion people will put their hands to the wheels of the 1 Million 20 thousand kilometers of Yatra - most of them directly and the others by proxy (Paroksh). (See enclosed hereby the Main Yatra route with centres for rendezvous with the public. One should feel blessed if one's native place figures on this list).

(11) Objectives of the Yatra - Immediate Purpose of the Journey

(11-i) Abhay Dham (Fearless Abode, i.e., Home of Gopaalak/Cow-tender);

(11-ii) Abhay Graam (Instituting Fearless Villages - with 70% of families being Gopalaks).

(11-iii) Formation of representative Committees for cow protection, with members from all religious folds.

(11-iv) Go Banks : Starting safe havens for cows at Tehsil and District levels that would take care of stray and abandoned cows; preventing such cows from being sent to slaughterhouses.

(11-v) Declare Cow a National Mammal: Over 500 million people to participate in the greatest ever signature campaign (10 Signature Collectors per 10,000 people) calling for the end of cruelty to cow and declare it a National Mammal.

When the Bharatiya Kisaan (farmer) gives a "Vachan" (word), he keeps it and doesn't break the commitment. His/her signature would mean that he/she would never sell or give Govansh (cow & its progeny) to any abattoir/slaughter house/butcher under any circumstances. Only this Vachanvaddhataa (standing firm on promise, come what may) would complement the laws for cow protection. Otherwise, mere laws on paper may not be enough.

The crores of signatures with a Memorandum will be presented to the President of Bharat on January 31, 2010 at New Delhi.

(11-vi) Demand for a separate ministry to handle the issues related to cow.

(11-vii) Demand the state governments to take responsibility of cow protection and development activities.

(11-viii) Have a Central Law for protection of Govansh.

(11-ix) Cow Literacy Movement on the lines of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

(11-x) Govansh-based Employment prospects, Good Health and promotion of organic farming and bio-diversity.

(11-xi) Govansh to proudly reclaim its respected key status in GDP & GNH (Gross Domestic Product and Gross National Happiness)

(11-xii) Total ban on chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

(11-xiii) It is not only a movement to arrest slaughter of Govansh, but also arrest steady decline in national health, arrest growing barrenness of agricultural lands and poisoning of ground water tables due to chemical fertilizers & pesticides, address unemployment problem and uphold the Deva Sanskriti (Divine Rishi & Krishi Culture of holistic and syncretic Aahaar, Vihaar, Aachaar, Vichaar).

(11-xiv) Gaiyya Bachegi To Desh Bachega (If Cow survives, the country will register integral growth and blessedness).

(11-xv) Demand government action for protection and growth of the remaining 33 breeds of indigenous Bharatiya cow and protection of its purity by stopping its cross breeding.

(11-xvi) Demand to ensure wide range of cow-based employment for the youth and propagate among them the "Look Village, Look Agriculture Policy".

---------

Long Term Purpose of the Journey

(11-xvii) Conserve Gochar Bhoomi (grazing lands/meadows/pastures), reclaim it from encroachers, extend it as may be necessary and feasible.

(11-xviii) Show the path of organic farming and check farmers’ suicide. (Over 185,000 farmers committed suicide all over India in last 15 years)

(11-xix) Stop uncontrolled migration of villagers to towns and cities.

(11-xx) Educate the farmer that cow is not giver of milk alone. It is important that it is the farmers’ responsibility to care and protect the cow.

(11-xxi) Educate the farmer about the gains of using oxen for farming and positive effects of organic farming. (For 400 million acres of small land holdings of small farmers in plain, hilly, mountainous and forest regions of Bharat, oxen is still the only means to till these small patches of land and maintain bio-diversity)

(11-xxii) Set up Grass Banks

(11-xxiii) Forming Gochar Bhoomi Praadhikaran (Grazing Lands/Meadows/Pastures Authority)

(11-xxiv) Sensitise the society to the menace of chemical fertilizers and chemical pesticides/insecticides and replace it by home-made preventive combinations prepared from cow urine and dung. Reassert bio-fertilizers/manure/compost/pesticides based agriculture (farming, crop-growing, gardening)

(11-xxv) Develop products related with cow. Create market for products from cow milk, urine and dung.

(11-xxvi) Conduct serious research on the above.

(11-xxvii) Initiate Gow-Premi (Cow Loving) Families

(11-xxviii) Encourage Farmers/Planters/Cultivators/Growers to adopt, breed and cherish the cow that will lead to green revolution and white revolution

(11-xxix) Gow-Samvardhan -

Promotion of "Micro Go" (Mother Cow): Advance cow to again become the central figure in rebuilding and restoring villages, agrarian economy, including agro-based cottage industries, bio-diversity, agriculture related handicraft, et al

Promotion of "Macro Go" (Mother Earth) : To sensitize the people about the holistic, environment & ecology friendly equation and management of the "Panch-Ja", viz., Jal (water resources), Jungle, Jaanwar (animal kingdom), Zameen (land) and Janata (people) for the good of all.

(11-xxx) Cow-based hale and hearty, wholesome, nature & life friendly non-violent and non-exploitive way of life & living will make man happy, healthy, prosperous and blessed.

(11-xxxi) Cow products in forms of milk, butter, ghee (clarified butter), curd, Lassi, butter-milk, medicines will benefit and enrich the people and make them self-reliant with sense of fulfillment and high self-esteem.

Archbishop of Mumbai Lies and Steals from Ved Upanishad

Spread The Word

----------Forwarded Message----------
From: P. Deivamuthu, Hindu Voice

Archbishop of Mumbai Lies

I attended the Press Conference, held today (12th June 2009) at 3.30 p.m. at the Shanmukhananda Hall, King Circle, Mumbai, addressed by Kanchi Shankaracharya Swamiji and the Archbishop of Mumbai, Cardinal Oswald Gracias, subsequent to the Inter-Religious Dialogue held at the same venue.

After their Press Briefing, when question time arrived, I put a question to Cardinal Oswald Gracias: "In the Indian Community Bible released by Mumbai Catholic Church, you have included hundreds of verses from Vedas and Upanishads. Does this not amount to steeling the intellectual property of Hindus?". The answer given by the Cardinal was "I am not aware of this"

Now look at the press reports published by Mumbai newspapers datelined July 09, 2008, reproduced below:

==========

Mumbai, July 09, 2008: The Catholic Church has released a special Bible for India, one that has reference to Indian scriptures, uses Indian cultural and religious themes, and will appeal to the new generation.

The liberative knowledge of the spirit (atman) is to be attained through ‘seeing, listening, reflecting and meditating’ This verse from the hoary Brihadaranyaka Upanishad explains chapter 51 of the Book of Isaiah, in The New Community Bible (Catholic Edition) for India.

Church leaders called the book, that was released in Mumbai last month by the Archbishop of Bombay, Oswald Cardinal Gracias, "a work of lasting importance".

Christened the ‘Indian Bible’, the book is the culmination of a significant 18-year long experiment by the local Catholic Church to adapt the Bible for the Indian community.

Thus, apart from using Indian cultural and religious themes in the narrative, the book also uses English that is familiar to Indians, unlike the older editions of the holy book.

This Indianised bible also dipicts Virgin Mary in a sari and Joseph clad in a loincloth and turban.

============

Having himself released the Book - The New Community Bible - the Cardinal had the temerity to say that he was not aware of it, in the presence of about 30 journalists and photographers. If this is not a blatant lie, what is it?

My subsequent question was: "Does that mean that Bible was written by human beings, and has nothing to do with Jesus Christ?" His answer was: "It was spoken by the God and written by people".

1) US body should not interfere in Indian affairs: Shankaracharya
Pioneer, June 13, 209
TN Raghunatha | Mumbai

Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati on Friday vehemently opposed the impending visit of United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) to India, by saying that it was nothing but “an intrusive mechanism of a foreign Government to interfere in the internal affairs of this country”.

“Though the Indian Government has permitted USCIRF for sending its delegation to this country to hold meetings with our people to ascertain religious freedom in our country, the delegation should actually not be allowed to enter this country on this intrusive mission. We will not allow external interference into our internal affairs,” the Shankaracharya said.

The Shankaracharya was interacting with the mediapersons after initiating the inter-faith dialogue with Christian leaders, including a cardinal from Vatican City in Rome, Jean Louis P Tauran and Cardinal Oswald Gracias from Mumbai.

Held at that the Shanmukhananda Hall in central Mumbai, the inter-faith dialogue — aimed at sending a message of peace and harmony to the people — was along the lines of a similar move undertaken by the Pope Benedict XVI to hold talks with the chief of Rabbinate of Israel at Jerusalem on May 12,2009, to bolster religious tolerance between Jews and Catholics.

In a significant statement, the seer from the Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt voiced his opposition to “forceful conversion” by any religion. “It has become easy for the missionaries to convert Hindus. All Hindu organisations and associations should work together to educate Hindus and eradicate conversion activity. We have conveyed this message to Christian leaders in the meeting,” the Shankaracharya said.

Echoing the sentiments expressed by the Shankaracharya vis-à-vis “forceful conversion”, Mumbai’s Cardinal Oswald Gracias said: “We will not encourage any forceful activities. This message will reach all the Christian organisations.”

The Shankaracharya also exhorted the Churches and Christian groups to utilise the funds received by them from abroad for social causes and not for religious conversions.

“We know that very large amounts of money come into this country for Churches and Christian groups, ostensibly for charitable work. These funds should be used only for social causes like health, education etc and should not be used for religious conversion. The Christian organisations should also distribute the funds received from abroad among various charitable institutions irrespective of their religious faith,” the Shankaracharya said.

The Shankaracharya went on to add: “… the Hindu dharma and the Hindus welcome Christians, Muslims, Parsis and Jews to make this land their home. We expect that these religions will not seek to destroy our faith, religion and wound the religious sensibilities. We encourage all religions to live with mutual respect and harmony and in a shared sense of nationalism which should bind us all as one nation”.

The Shankaracharya also advised the churches in India against using Hindu religious words, phrases and symbols like Veda, Agama, Rishi, Ashrama and Om, as an “inculturation” tactic to deceive vulnerable sections of people targeted for religious conversion. He also urged the Indian Government to look into the reported efforts by some churches to script a new bible for new converts by usurping sections of sacred Vedas, Upanishads and Puranas and incorporating them into the Bible.

2) Interfaith Dialogue @ Mumbai - Press briefing by Kanchi Acharya

HH Sri Kanchi Sankaracharia’s briefing on June 12,2009

1. Exactly one month ago to the date, the Pope went to Jerusalem where Jesus was born, for a similar dialogue that the Vatican had undertaken with the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. At the end of that meeting when the Pope and Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yona Metzer jointly addressed the Press and Media, the Chief Rabbi thanked the Pope for assuring the Chief Rabbinate that the Catholic Church would desist and cease from all missionary and conversion activities among the Jews. This is construed as endorsed and agreed by the Pope since he was present in the press meet. We need a similar commitment from the Church for Hindus.

2. After such inter-faith meetings, the points agreed have to be faithfully abided. Otherwise there will be no point in holding such meetings. Unless the Church reassures Hindus that it will not conduct itself in a manner that wounds Hindu sensibilities and follows up on those assurances, such inter-faith meetings, no matter how frequently they are held will be futile and will not serve any meaningful cause.

3. In 1999, Pope Johan Paul II had stated that the mission of the Vatican was to plant the Cross in Asia in the third millennium to facilitate the Christianizing of the world which alone would cause the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. The Pope must tell us the rationale for the First Coming of Jesus Christ when there was no Christianity or the Church to undertake the mission to Christianize the world.

4. We see the USCIRF (US Commission on International Religious Freedom) as an intrusive mechanism of a foreign government to interfere in the internal affairs of this country. The USCIRF which has been permitted to visit this country to hold meetings with our people to ascertain religious freedom in our country must no longer be permitted to enter this country on this intrusive mission. We will not allow external interference into our internal affairs.

5. We know that very large amounts of money come into this country for Churches and Christian groups, ostensibly for charitable work. These funds should be used only for social causes like health, education etc and should not be used for religious conversion. During these dialogues, it should be agreed that the funds should be distributed to all Organisations who do charitable work irrespective of the organisations’ religious faith. A common pool should be created and a Committee formed to distribute and monitor the usage of these funds.

6. It has become easy for the Missionaries to convert Hindus. All Hindu Organisations and Associations should work together to educate Hindus and eradicate the conversion activity.

7. Hindu dharma is by nature diverse and so all different panthas and sampradayas co-exist on this bhumi without seeking to destroy the others. Hindu dharma has nurtured and supported all faiths and religions because that is the way of dharma. We expect that religions which have come into this bhumi from other lands will respect this vital characteristic of Hindu dharma and not do anything to subvert or disturb the sense of nationhood of this country. Hindu dharma and the Hindu people welcome Christians and Muslims, Parsis and Jews to make this land their home. We expect from these religions that they will not seek to destroy our faith, our religion and wound our religious sensibilities. We encourage all religions to live with mutual respect and harmony in a shared sense of nationalism which should bind us all as one nation. Nationalism should come first.

8. We are aware of the preaching that they will cure diseases and ailments if the individual converts to their faith. This is illegal as per the DRUGS AND MAGIC REMEDIES ACT 1954.

9. Most of the countries in the world (USA, UK, Japan, Middle-east nations, Pakistan, Sri Lanka etc.), adopt national resolutions and statements of intent proclaimed by their governments and their tallest religious bodies affirming their determination to protect and defend the culture and the religion from which their cultures derive. In India alone we pass resolutions which officially and legally promote an irreligious and unspiritual creed called secularism. Secularism is an administrative quality; it cannot be the soul of this nation. The soul of this nation is religious and spiritual. We call upon our government and other important religious bodies to recognize this truth and affirm their commitment to protect the soul of this nation.

10. The Buddhist Mahasangha and the Joint Committee of Buddhist Organizations have declared its intention to get the Sri Lankan government to pilot and pass a national anti-conversion Bill and make it law. We welcome this move and strongly endorse this measure.

11. The Church in India must stop forthwith the use of Hindu religious words, phrases and symbols like Veda, Agama, Rishi, Ashrama, Om and other such in what is referred to as ‘inculturation’ tactics but which are only intended to deceive the vulnerable sections of our people who are the intended targets for religious conversion. This is also insulting to and wounding the religious sensitivities of Hindus. Similarly it has been brought to our notice that some churches are scripting a new Bible for the new converts by usurping sections of our sacred Vedas, Upanishads and Puranas and incorporating them into the Bible. This must stop immediately and all such Bibles must be withdrawn from circulation. We urge the Indian government to look into the issue and do the needful.

His Holiness Kanchi Shankaracharya Shri Jayendra Saraswati ji on Holy city Ayodhya and Muslims

Spread The Word

Following are interviews of the zenith of sainthood, our incomparable Revered His Holiness Shri Shankaracharya ji of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, Shri Jayendra Saraswati ji and his views on Holy land Ayodhya, Shri Ram Mandir, Mutt's inclusive contribution to Jobs creation, Social uplifting and Communal harmony in Ayodhya, Muslim's communal arrogance and radical intolerance on the issue, etc. His Holiness Shri Shankaracharya ji was arrested, humiliated, and tortured on false charges on a holy Deepavali day of November 11, 2004 by the communal government almost a year after these interviews (July 16-18, 2003) as soon as the government changed in center.

Below are some excerpts from the interviews:

'Has Allah told them to fight all the time?'
What is the extent of your, your Mutt's involvement in Ayodhya? Is it only the temple?

In Ayodhya the Kanchi Mutt has set up a trust, the Kanchi Ayodhya Nagara Development Trust. On it we have our Mutt officials, and locals, including a Muslim. The people of that area, whether Hindu or Muslim, are very poor; the mahants and such people are also there, living in big bungalows, they are happy. So we thought of doing something for the people, to do some social service, for the poor to prosper. We teach them tailoring, and buy readymade clothes from them which is sold in Hyderabad, so they have a steady livelihood. We have also started embroidery classes recently, and both Hindus and Muslims are part of this project. That is one endeavour of ours that is on in Ayodhya.

Apart from that we have also set up a small information technology project in Ayodhya, in which both Hindus and Muslims, men and women, participate. We have taken on rent a small place there, hired two teachers to teach them IT, and help them set up on their own by giving them whatever help they may need. One batch is over and the second batch commenced on the 6th of this month.

We want to see the people of Ayodhya happy. There is no point in fighting over Ram, Krishna, this god or that, in Ayodhya. Feed the stomach, Swamigal, they say. They are now able to look after themselves, their family, with dignity. Both communities are living with dignity, which is important.

But what about the main problem in Ayodhya?

As far as Ayodhya is concerned there is no problem at all. Not through the Mutts there, or through the poor people. If any problem is there it is coming through outside forces. If these forces were to keep away the problem you are referring to will automatically solve itself.

I am talking about the specific problem over the Ram temple. You and the All India Muslim Personal Law Board had this exchange of letters, which raised a lot of hope all around, and then came your letter dated July 1, in which you raised Kashi and Mathura over which the Board expressed its dismay.

Why? Leave their feelings alone. OK, I agree, maybe I need not have mentioned Kashi and Mathura, I don't want them either, but what about the other points in my letter? They have used this as a pretext to ignore the other points mentioned by me.

What else did you say?

We had said, in the first letter, to give us the undisputed area, and to build a wall in the middle if they feel that we will extend the temple, if they don't trust us. We will in the meantime talk, look to the court judgment etc. No one else should interfere in this matter, it should be sorted out by the two sides. Then they asked for some clarifications. You had mentioned the court judgment, they said, so can you tell us where the Ramalayam's garba griha will be located? Show the same on the map, they said.

We wrote to them that the undisputed and disputed areas, which were separate earlier, have become one, is not in existence anymore. They were separate, which is why we had asked for it, but now there is no separation of disputed and undisputed areas. In the last developments of the last few months the two parts have become one.

What are these developments you referred to?

The matter went to the Supreme Court for vacating the stay on the undisputed land given during the Bhoomi Pujan, which ruled that the stay will be vacated only when the status of the disputed land is sorted out. After that there is no point talking about disputed and undisputed areas, they have become one. There is no sense in them saying they won't give the undisputed area, both are now disputed. Given that, if we want the talks to go anywhere, we have to start discussing the disputed area since the court has made even the undisputed area into a disputed one.

On what basis did you ask for the disputed land?

We gave them reasons for saying so. One, for the sake of communal harmony. This issue has led to a lot of violence, and will lead to more violence in which poor people will get killed. You must develop a spirit of give-and-take. It is the vishwas-bhoomi [land of faith] for Hindus. For you, it is of a man who you call great today [Babar], we don't know what he was then. We don't also know if there was a temple there. Hindus have the faith that he was born there, so keeping in mind this faith if you give up the area it will lead to communal harmony, we told them.

Two, today, Lord Ram is already seated there, although in a small jhopdi, it is the reality. As of today if you think anyone can move him from there, it is impossible. Just as the undisputed and disputed areas have become one, it is also evident that Lord Ram has occupied the site. If he is moved, there will be mass protests, so he cannot be moved. Even a human being, over twelve years, acquires property, family etc. Also, whether occupied land or unoccupied, if someone has resided in a place for twelve years the law recognizes him as the owner. But we told them, we are not here to claim ownership. It may be yours but we are asking you to give it up in our favour. We can also go the law's way but we are asking you.

Next, there are already many mosques in that town, some 20. But only eight have prayers offered there still, the others are in a state of disrepair. No one's come forward to repair them, nor has the government given permission for it. In this situation if you erect another mosque who do you expect to come and pray there? You build a temple or mosque when there are people around. Like, when you build a colony you build a Vinayak temple. But you don't erect a temple just because the land is yours, you build where there is scope for public worship. Similarly there is no need for public worship in a mosque there, where will the people come from? For this reason also you must give in to us, we said.

More, we all accept Allah as great, the supreme power. We pray to such a god, in a mosque worthy of him, or in a holy place, or even when you find the time and place. But here is a mosque named after Babar, who came here, fought and won, so you decide, is he of importance, or is Allah of importance? Allah is supreme, but do we rate Babar who came here and fought as equally important? This fact of his war, whenever it was fought in history, will be remembered forever. If you want the ill will to go, remove Babar. Otherwise, his memory will keep coming up, and the problem will keep recurring.

Lastly, we all agree that communal harmony is needed. The Wakf Board has given up so much land in so many places, for schools, colleges, etc. It is nothing new. Given that, if you give up this site for the sake of communal harmony, you will come to occupy an exalted position. Because, although only a handful of Muslims may be terrorists they have given the entire community a bad name. Because of them the general perception is that a Muslim is someone who will only fight. But, if you were to think in a spirit of accommodation, you will enhance the reputation of Indian Muslims across the world, as a people who are willing to give in for communal harmony.

I had written all this to them, in my last letter

Which led to the Board digging its heels in. But why Kashi and Mathura?

That was extra, yes. I don't need it, it is not needed now, but I said one day Hindus may ask for them so be prepared mentally for it, that's all. But it was unnecessary, yes, though we had said it.

Yes, there seems to be a hint of a threat in your second letter.

What threat? Isn't there a difference between saying 'prepare yourself mentally' and 'get ready to fight'? If your office says your performance is not good, is that a threat? It means to change your behaviour, to perform better, and cannot be considered a threat, but sound advice. If someone mistakes advice for a threat, what can I do! The two are different.

When you say, 'if you don't do this I will kill you, harm you' that is a threat, but we are not doing it. To consider well-meaning advice as a threat is the wrong approach. Anyway, let it be, we have no such desire in our minds.

In all fairness, their reply should have been to question why I am asking for the disputed area instead of the undisputed area. But they never wanted to know! If they had asked me I would have told them that the two have become one now, both are a problem today. Since the whole land has now become disputed, where do we start from if not the disputed area so that the non-disputed area also comes out? This has to be faced, but no one wants to face it.

So what is the next stage in the negotiations?

Unless they are willing to face all this we will not talk about the next phase.

But what do you expect to see from them?

The news must come out, that they realize we changed our view was that since the disputed and non-disputed have become one, we broached the disputed land. This has to happen.

Second, they have announced that no one has the right to give away Allah's land. Even during the various Muslim empires they have given grants to various temples and Mutts, including land. Grants were given to the Sringeri Mutt, our [Kanchi] Mutt, to the Srirangam temple and many others. One of them even built a temple! That proves there's nothing that says Allah's property cannot be given away.

Apart from what the Wakf Board owns everything else belongs to Allah. If the world is Allah's property how can they be different with just one piece of land? They have not answered that properly. They had clarifications of my first letter, but no doubts over the second letter. Why? So how did they decide Allah's property cannot be given, how did they decide that we are threatening them? Did I ask anything for myself?

Since I mentioned Kashi and Mathura they should have wanted to know what will happen later, who will ask, when, how, shall we talk about it now. Instead of that they decide that Allah's property cannot be given away, so how do they want to solve the problem? The way we say everything is Bhagwan's they believe Allah's property is all over, fine, but how can they say they cannot give only that portion? What, they don't buy and sell shops and houses? Whose property is that, Allah's or theirs?

According to the Quran, the world belongs to Allah, not one bit of land here or there. In countries like Pakistan mosques have been razed, only recently one was pulled down, but did you see any protest over it? In Afghanistan and Iraq many were ruined in the war.
Such questions should be debated upon and done with. Instead, they say it is Allah's property and get stuck on one point: you raised Kashi and Mathura which we don't like.

Finally they say looking at their image, honour, respect, dignity, their consensus, the consensus of all Indians they will consider [my proposal]. They have taken a minority status, and now talk about Indian consensus? Let them then give up the minority status.

The counterpoint to what you say is, why can't Hindus show their large heart, the oft-repeated line that all faiths are equal, by giving away the site to Muslims? Why are you stuck on it?

Yes, Hindus have a large heart, all faiths are equal. If it were not, such a senior religious leader like the Shankaracharya will not be talking to them. I have gone to Lucknow to talk to them, no saint has done that, no Hindu has gone there. Why did I go to Lucknow when they called me? For peace and communal harmony. Did they show me similar respect? I did not go there to see their architecture and such stuff.

We were discussing this problem, so I went to an Arabic school there to talk to them, putting my prestige aside so that something positive may come about. Communal harmony can come about if both are in agreement. Has Allah told them to fight all the time, don't they have a spirit of give and take? Where can they go apart from India? We all have to live together right here.

Don't you agree Muslims harbour a sense of grievance over December 6, 1992, when the Babri Masjid was pulled down by Hindus?

What has happened has happened. They may feel that way but how long will they grieve over December 6? Our temples have also been demolished, people killed. In Kashmir many temples were destroyed, our people are still being killed there. Shouldn't we also harbour similar feelings? Both sides should forget. In day to day life there will be many grievances, they should not be nursed.

December 6 cannot last forever. How many people must be upset over Babar's mosque in that sacred site? You have been grieving for 10 years, many people have grouses going back hundreds of years. After all he defeated us and built that structure, didn't he? Both sides have grievances, and both sides should get over them, one can't live that way.

'Show me another janambhoomi and we will go there'
Archaeological excavations have been going on at the Babri Masjid site in Ayodhya, but indications so far are that a temple was not pulled down to build the mosque. Doesn't it puncture Hindu claims that Ram's temple was razed to erect the mosque?

Listen, Lord Ram was born hundreds, thousands of years ago. In matters of faith you cannot consider such stuff as proof. To give you an example, if your father died after you were born who is to say you were born to your mother and no one else? Because people around say she is your mother you believe she is. Or your dad has gone away, and returns after 10 years. Your mother knows him but you don't. Yet you believe her when she tells you he is your father, don't you? Isn't that faith?

To give you another example, you believe that you will get paid after working for 30 days -- isn't that also faith? Setting out to prove faith is an impossible task.

Faith is faith, proof is proof. Can you prove there's god? That is faith. Can we prove Allah exists? That is faith? Can we prove Ram exists? That is faith. Because we believe in the Quran we believe in Allah; we believe in the Ramayan, so we believe in Ram. Faith is not to be tested and proved.

My question remains. For long the case was built up that a Ram temple was demolished to build the mosque. Now it may so happen that it wasn't the case.

The question is not whether a temple existed there or not. The question is of the site's sacredness. We have faith that he was born there. What gives us that faith? We could claim many other sites in Ayodhya, but why are we saying this is the site?

Exactly. There are other such sites too in Ayodhya.

Where? Nowhere The sites you are talking about are like 'the place where Ram played, Ram's kitchen, the place where he slept' etc. No other place claims to be the janambhoomi, our faith is this particular site is where he was born.

Second, it was the custom to build a mosque on our holy sites. In that sense they seem to be the cause behind our faith (laughs). We know that they had built their mosques on sites important to us. They thus indirectly contributed to our faith growing.

You had said there are enough mosques in Ayodhya, so there is no need for another. Conversely, isn't it true that there are enough temples in India and there is no need for another one?

Of course, there are many temples, including in Ayodhya itself. But is there a temple on the spot where Ram was born? We say there are many mosques so we don't need another one. You say there are enough temples so we don't need another one. But we are not building a temple for the sake of building it. This is janambhoomi! Show me another one and we will go there (laughs heartily).

My earlier question remains. Are further talks possible?

If one can abandon ego, not think of a prestige issue, and think instead of communal harmony, talks are possible. Otherwise, no chance.

What is your impression of AIMPLB President Maulana Rabey Hasan Nadvi, with who you have been interacting?

You won't find another good human being like him. He is very spiritual (satvik) in nature. He is the nephew of Ali Miyan [Maulana Abul Hasan Ali Hasani Nadvi, a respected Muslim leader and rector of the Nadwatul Ulama], who had come here twice and thrice when Periyavar [the late Kanchi Parmacharya Chandrasekharendra Saraswati] was around. Nadvi is just like his uncle, and possesses all the qualities essential for a tapaswi. The others around him are different, poor fellow, what can he do by himself!

There are many people like him among Muslims, they must come together and overcome the negative forces. Such people are not there among Muslims alone. They need to be overcome. The good people must stand up and do it, for the sake of communal harmony, nation, unity, for the good of everyone.

There is no point being adamant on a point and calibrating your replies on that basis. If you want to, then better to do it face to face. Let's talk about it, and not through the media.

But why have you been communicating through letters, why not face to face?

They asked for a letter, we gave it. They said we need to place it before their committee, so we gave them the first letter. They had clarifications, we gave explanations. If they didn't ask why would we give? We had been talking all along.

They could have formed a subcommittee, decided on a face to face, done that, and then asked for a letter. They could have done that also, but did not. Or, they could have said on receiving the second letter that some points have been raised, let us seek clarifications, talk face to face. If their intention was above board they would have done that.

'We erect memorials for Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Kamaraj, and we can't have one for Ram?'
Out of the five Sankara Matts (the other four being in Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri and Sringeri), you have taken the lead in trying to solve the problem. Are the other four Shankaracharyas with you in your initiative?

No one has opposed it. No one has any objection. No one is concerned so long as something good comes out, doesn't matter whether it is a Shankaracharya or anyone else doing it. I am not doing it to hog the credit; if I did, the other Mutts could get upset. National integration, communal harmony, the country's well-being, and a Ram temple comes up, where is my name in it? If I had the ego to take credit for it, others could get angry and oppose me but that's not my intention at all. If everything goes well Ayodhya will benefit, the nation will benefit! How will I benefit personally? I will still be sitting here in Kanchipuram. I am merely doing my duty, so there is no way for anyone to become angry at me.

Except, of course, the politician (laughs).

There is also doubt over the status of the Kanchi Mutt itself. Adi Sankara, goes one belief, founded only four Mutts, and the Kanchi Mutt is self-proclaimed.

Those who say so will say so. It is like the dog barking at the sun, does the sun care? If a cloud blocks the sun, has the sun disappeared? Similarly, such statements won't rob the Kanchi Mutt of anything. I know who is spreading such talk, he had in fact been a friend of mine once, he had then given in writing that Kanchi was also a Sankara Mutt (laughs). We still have that letter. Today there is not a squeak out of him, there is no publicity for him, the world today knows only one Shankaracharya, he is unable to handle this obscurity and gives vent to his feelings to the press. That's all.

One thing has always puzzled people. What is your interest in Ayodhya? Why are you involved in the negotiations?

Shouldn't I do at least one good thing in my lifetime? There is so much strife over Ayodhya. Do you know what the name means? A-yodham, meaning a place without war. Can there be another adarsh-purush [ideal] like him! If not a memorial for him then who else! We erect memorials for our fathers, grandfathers, Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Kamaraj, and we can't have one for Ram? It has been facing problems for so many years. We are willing to do that for politicians, but not for god?

Radical Islamist Zakir Naik brings out Fake Shankaracharya to lie, cheat, deceive Hindus

Spread The Word

Zakir Naik, the known Anti-Hindu radical Islamist fundamentalist doing what he does the best. To lie, cheat and deceive Hindus to convert to Islam. He does this by hook and crook and by twisting our Shastr and bringing out fake supporters/proponents. A friend forwarded this as to how Zakir Naik brought out some fake guy posing as Shankaracharya who is claiming and propagating false information. Well read it yourself. I have redacted the line with the link to this radical's video.

----------------Forwarded Message----------------
Hey ~

Check this out. U should report this on your daily blog.

This b@$t@rd Zakir Naik is just getting on my nerves. Kuch jyaada hi fraud-giri kar raha hai h@r@mi.

He brings a fake shankaracharya to praise Islam, says, "Ved ka pura saar" is contained in 1st line of muslim kalma and other rubbish.

http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DX8zasuy9 [Redacted to stop lies]

I was initially shocked by it when a friend showed it to me yesterday. Of course, real shankaracharya would never say such crap, its a very cunning fake.

This video (read the comments) exposes the fraud.

THE TRUTH:
The pretender Devanand Saraswati is not recognised by the Shankaracharya Matha he claims to represent:
An official representative of that Shankaracharya Matha - Shree Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati - has identified 'Devanand Saraswati' as NOT being a Shankaracharya at all.

The 5 established Shankaracharya Maths with their Jagadguru Shankaracharyas are:
